Fort Orange : The Legacy of Western Colonization in North Maluku
Kota Ternate besides known as the best spice producer, also known as the City of Fortress. These are  Fort Toloko, Fort Oranje, as well as the Fort City of Fort Kalamata Promise. The biggest of  all five colonial forts in Ternate is Oranje fortress, which was built by Admiral Cornelis VOC Matelieff de Jonge in 1607 in the former land of the Sultanate of Ternate Malay fort that was destroyed by the Spanish.

The construction of the fort Fort Oranje as "a thank you"  from the Sultan of Ternate to Admiral Cornelis VOC Matelieff de Jonge  helping the Sultan of Ternate managed to expel the Spanish from the Sultanate of Ternate at the time.

The fort address is Jl. Hasan Boesoeri, Ternate Tengah, Kota Ternate and was originally derived from traces of an old fort built by the Portuguese,which was built in 1540 by the governor-general Francisco Serrao, and inhabited by Malays so named fort Malay. In this castle was once the center of the highest government Netherlands East Indies (Governor General) VOC Pieter Both, Herarld Reyist, Laurenz Reaal and J.C Coum.
