The building was located on a plot of land in Konengsplein Cost no. 4, now called as Jalan Medan 14 Merdeka Timur, Central Jakarta. In 1817, G.C van Rijk built a Indische Woonhuis on the land with materials taken a manor house in Batavia. In 1900, this building was part of the  education  foundation building, founded by Christian Carpentier Alting Stitching (CAS) under the auspices of the Order on the initiative of pastor, Van Vrijmetselaren Ds. Albertus Samuel Carpentier Alting (1837-1935). The building  with the Dutch architecture was used for women boarding, as the first educational venture in the Indies.

In 1955, the government of the Republic of Indonesia banned the activities of the Dutch government and society. The Building and education management were then transferred below the successor,CAS and Lorge Vijmetselaren Movement. Based on the decision issued by the Highest Commando  in 1962 signed by the President Soekarno, the movement was banned and the Raden Saleh Foundation dissolved. The shools and all equipments were taken over by the government of the Republic of Indonesia and handed over to the Ministry of Education and Culture. For more visit http://galeri-nasional.or.id/
