In Indonesia, it can be found in Sumatra, Borneo, Java, the Malay peninsula. The Belida name was taken from one of the river in South Sumatra. Once raw material for very popolair crackers of Palembang known as Kemplang and also Pempek but it has been  replaced by mackerel fish.

Belida fish is considered critically endangered because its utilization exceeds the limit of reproductive ability which causes the population to decrease drastically.
