West Sumatra is not only well known for its beautiful natural scenery, its culinar tradition is also very famous throughout Indonesia and even the world. The province of,  also known as Minangkabau, West Sumatra becomes so popular through the branding of "Padang Restaurant" for its traditional culinair. In this particular restaurant, one will discover a great variety of food dishes including Rendang to name, which was crowned twice by CNN, 2016 and 2017 consecutively,as the most delicious food in the World.

Padang Restaurant is easily found in almost any corner ofs  big and small cities across the archivelago to serve customers with the delicious foods. The foods are wellknown for its rich and delicious taste. It's no wonder that food from this area is a favorite of many people. The famous Minangkabau cuisine from this area has a strong, spicy and savory taste. Here are the lists of the most popular and favorite West Sumatran specialties.


1. Rendang

Rendang is the most typical dish from West Sumatra which is made known throughout the world by CNN after winning twice as the most delicious food . Made from beef cooked in coconut milk and rich spices, Rendang has a unique savory, spicy and aromatic taste.This meal of delicate, fragrant beef delight is made by slowly simmering beef with coconut milk and a combination of lemongrass, galangal, garlic, turmeric, ginger, and chilies.

 

2. Sate Padang

Sate Padang is a satay dish with a special peanut sauce. Beef, liver or chicken skin is skewered and grilled over charcoal, then served with a savory peanut sauce and Padang spices. Sate Padang is usually served with ketupat, rice and fried onions.

 

3. Gulai

Gulai is a curry dish that uses coconut milk as the main ingredient. Meat, fish or vegetables are cooked with spices such as turmeric, chili peppers, ginger and galangal. The Gulai has a very delicious thick, savory and aromatic gravy. Usually served with white rice.

 

4. Soto Padang

Soto padang is a soto dish originating from Padang, West Sumatra. Just like soto in general, soto padang consists of chunks of beef,  bean sprouts, cakes, chips, and crackers are the fillings for this soup. Soto Padang is served with white rice, sprinkled with fried onions, and served with typical Padang sauce.

 

5. Ayam Pop

Although looks simple, Ayam Pop, or chicken pop is actually made from various spices such as galangal, shallots, garlic, bay leaves, salt, lime, then added coconut milk. With so many spices, the taste of pop chicken becomes savory and rich in taste.


 

6. Ayam Sambal Ijo

Apart from pop chicken and chicken rendang, West Sumatra also has green chili chicken or lado mudo chicken. In the form of free-range chicken cooked with curly green chilies until freshly spicy.

 

7. Dendeng Balado

Dendeng Balado is a dish that combines balado, a hot sauce prepared from chilies, shallots, garlic, and spices, with thinly sliced, dry-fried beef or fish. Dendeng Balado has a tasty, spicy, flavorful, and crunchy flavor.

 

8. Kalio

Kalio is a typical Padang dish with a thick gravy, halfway between curry and rendang. Kalio seasoning is more or less similar to curry but the cooking time is longer so the taste is more pervasive. Besides that, the thick chicken kalio sauce is suitable for you to eat with ketupat or lontong.


9. Asam Padeh

Asam Padeh is a fish or meat dish cooked in a spicy and sour sauce. The sour sauce comes from a mixture of tamarind gelugur, chili, ginger and other spices. This dish has a refreshing, spicy and sour taste.

Historical Buildings and Sites in Jakarta: Menara Syahbandar.

Syahbandar Menara Jakarta was built around 1839 and previously called Uitkijk or Uitkijk Post, once the watchtower for vessels entering and leaving Batavia and as a tax collector's office for goods unloaded at the port of Sunda Kelapa. Its function as a control tower terminated after 1886, when the port of Tanjung Priok was opened. The tower  actually occupies the former bastion (camp) Culemborg. The bastion was made of rock in 1645, the fortifications, part of the wall around the city of Batavia to care for the mouth of the Ciliwung River, Warehouse pepper, and Shipyard. The building of Syahbandar Tower has a dimension of 4 x 8 meters high and 12 meters. Jakarta Syahbandar tower has three rooms, namely on the ground floor, in the central part measuring 6 × 7 meters, and the top which serves as a viewing room with four windows.
