The Celebration of 1st Suro in Surakarta by The Palace of Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat.

Keraton Kesunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat.

Every year, the Palace of  Kasunanan Surakarta Hadiningrat celebrates the turn of Javaness Calender  called 1st Suro. This tradition has been passed down from generation to generation on the night of 1 Suro, which is the first night in the Javanese calendar, and also coincides with the Islamic New Year 1 Muharram in the Hijri calendar which is on 7th July 2024.

The celebration of the 1st night of Suro has the meaning of commemorating a sign of the change of time which is considered very important, and is related to the cycle of life and rituals. The culmination of a series of traditional ceremonies held in the palace, before the new year begins, the 1 Suro Pusaka Carnival is held.

The Sacred White Buffalo or "Kebo Bule".

In the heritage carnival, usually the Surakarta Kasunanan Palace will also display "Kebo Bule" (White Buffalo) and various palace heirlooms which are used as symbols of the power of ancestral spirits.

The 2024 Suro 1 Heritage Carnival at the Kasunanan Palace in Surakarta will be held on Sunday evening at 23.59 WIB, or Monday early morning until finished. Before the heritage carnival begins, there will be a series of traditions passed down through generations carried out at the Solo Palace which will start on Sunday afternoon.

The Surakarta Palace will hold a heritage carnival for the Suro month series starting on Sunday afternoon. Then later (Monday) at 12 pm there will be a procession of heritage carnivals departing from the palace around the route as in previous years. The 1 Suro Keraton Solo evening heritage carnival series started on Sunday afternoon. The reason is, according to Javanese calculations and Islamic calculations, one day will start from night to day.

Sunday afternoon has joined the following day. So it has joined Monday. Why did the palace choose Monday for 1 Sura, because according to Sultan Agung's calendar Kurup Asapon so 1 Sura of the year falls on Monday.

The series of the 1st Suro night carnival included the wilujengan ceremony, the Xth Pakubuwana (PB) haul, and preparations for the carnival. According to him, there will be thousands of participants taking part in the 1 Suro 2024 evening heritage carnival at the Surakarta Palace, including Pakubuwana XIII, the empress, the crown prince and the courtiers of the Solo Palace.

As for the 1 Suro Keraton Solo 2024 carnival route, it will take the same route as in previous years, namely: Via the Supit Urang route - Jalan Pakubuwana - Gapura Gladah - Jalan Mayor Kusmanto - Jalan Captain Mulyadi - Jalan Veteran - Jalan Yos Sudarso - Jalan Slamet Riyadi-returns to the Solo Palace.

During the carnival procession, both courtiers and general participants are prohibited from talking, eating, drinking or joking. This is done to maintain sacredness and concentration in celebrating the New Year moment.
