Culture Tourism : Rumah Limas , Traditional House of Palembang, South Sumatra.

Besides traditionally woven fabric called  Songket cloths, the splendor of Palembang culture  is reflected from its traditional house called Rumah Limas, or Limas House.  Songket cloths made in Palembang have glorified  the tradition of Locals of Palembang handed down even for centuries from the era of the Sriwijaya Empire in the early first millenium. In fact, traditional architecture of Locals also had equally existed and survived for almost at the same  period of time.

Although quite a lot of Limas House have given up to endure the times, Visitors can still find some in the old Palembang where most original Palembang people stay, with deteriorating conditions. Or Visitors may find one at the State Musuem of South Sumatra, Balaputra Dewa.

Limas house at Jalan Demang Lebar Daun in Kelurahan Lorok Pakjo, Kecamatan Ilir Barat I, Kota Palembang is a show case worth dropping by. Demang Limas House is  conveniently located and easily accessible from and to the airport of Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin II.  It still represents the glamour of traditional architecture in the past thought.

Visitors can take a taxi for a fare of around 100 K IDR or ride LRT from the airport and stop at Demang Station and stroll for a couple of minutes to reach the house. It is open for public with a entrance fee of 10 K IDR.
