Happy 267th Anniversary of Yogjakarta City : the day of Transfer from Ambangketawang to Yogjakarta Palace.

  The date on October 7th is always remembered as the founding day of this city. The existence of the city of Yogyakarta cannot be separated from the Yogyakarta Palace. Because, the date of the founding of the City of Yogyakarta refers to the day when the King of the Yogyakarta Palace, Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono I, occupied the Yogyakarta Palace. This event occurred on October 7, 1776. In the Javanese calendar, Thursday Pahing 13 Sura 1682. The Yogyakarta Palace was actually built on October 9, 1775. The location where the palace was built was a forest. It is called Pabraringan Forest  located between two rivers. Namely, the Code t River on the west and the Gajah Wong River on the east side. During the construction of the palace, Sultan HB I lived at Pesanggrahan Keraton Ambarketawang. It's to the west, now in the Ambarketawang Village area, Kapanewon Gamping, Sleman Regency.   Candi Sari is close to Candi Kalasan about 3 km. Found in Bendan Village,  Tirtomartani, Kalasan, Sleman Regency, Candi Sari is also called Candi Bendan. From the City Center of Jogjakarta, it is about 10 km. Candi Sari and Candi Kalasan are Buddhism Temples. Both temples are similar in  the beauty of the building and the fineness of the sculpture. Besides, both temples have similarity in the use of vajralepa to cover ornaments and reliefs on external walls. The temple was estimated to had been built in the 8th century AD, namely during the reign of Rakai Panangkaran, along with the construction of the Kalasan Temple. The two temples do have many similarities, both in terms of architecture and relief. Candi Sari was rediscovered in the early 20th century in a state of serious disrepair.  The first restoration was carried out between 1929 and 1930.   Historically and politically, DI Jogyakarta is the amalgamation of Jogyakarta Sultanate and the Dutchy Paku Alaman. Since the proclamation of Indonesia Independence, both the former Mataram Sultanate declared as part of Republic Indonesia and given a status of Special Territory (Daerah Istimewa,DI) of Jogyakarta with Jogjakarta Sultan as the Governor and the Duke Sri Paku Alam as the Vice Governor. After nearly a half an hour of queued landing, at last our one and half flight touched down in the international airport of Adi Sucipto Jogjakarta on  Friday,14th February. Overshadowed by the eruption of Mount Merapi  a day before (13/2/20), I felt a bit worried the next blast might stop us from taking on the challenge of  off-road ride in the Merapi Lava Tour on the day of our arrival. Before embarking on our journey around Mount Merapi, considered the most active volcano in the World, we had our lunch at Griya Sekar Aji Resto in Wukirsari, a traditional food of Jogjakarta. According our itinerary, we had a four day three night stay in Jogjakarta, arrived on 14 February and returned on 17 February 2020 to Palembang. So many tourists visited of famous temples: Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko temples.  In fact, they missed out another interesting temple in the surrounding area called Candi Ijo or Ijo Temple. Ijo Temple is also deserved a visit.  Ijo Temple is a Hindu-style temple complex, located 4 kilometers southeast of Ratu Boko Temple or approximately 18 kilometers east of Yogyakarta city. This temple is estimated to had been built between the period of the 10th century until the 11th century during the era of the Mataram Medang period. Interestingly Ijo Temple is on a hill called Bukit Ijo or Ijo Hill located at an altitude of 375 meters above sea level (msl) making it the highest temple in Yogyakarta, so as called Ijo Temple.  when visiting the temple, you will have a panoramic view of Jogjakarta city and the best place for Sunset watching.  Source: wikipedia
